GOVERNMENT IS BEING RUN LIKE A CIRCUS

“Governments are elected into office so that they can think and provide solutions to our problems, but since this group of people came into office, they seem to have turned themselves into trouble makers, and at the end of the day, the ordinary Ghanaian who queued in the scorching sun to vote for them so that his/her problems will be solved is now faced with the challenge of solving problems being created these trouble makers”. These were concerns raised by a political analyst and columnist of the Daily Guide Newspaper, Justice Abeiku Newton- Offei

Speaking on Minority Caucus, a current affairs programme on the Joy News channel, Newton- Offei expressed his utmost disgust at the way President Mills and his appointees had entangled themselves in lies and deceit, in their attempt to cover up the Woyome scandal and other acts of corruption. He accused President Mills of lying through his teeth to the people of Ghana when he said at his media encounter on January 9, 2012, that until the “Woyomegate” scandal broke, he knew nothing about the payment of GH¢51 million to the Financial Engineer.

Referring to the third paragraph of the “Third Epistle” of Citizen Vigilante Martin Amidu, Newton-Offei drew attention to the part of the statement where Martin Amidu states that he gave the list of the people he suspected to have colluded with others to dupe the state of the whopping GH¢51 million judgment debt paid to Mr. Woyome, to the President. The part states: “In a preliminary ten-page report to the President, in my letter D45/SF.173/10 dated 6th January 2012, I stated professionally what I had discovered, including the names of each person I suspected to be implicated in the case”.

He therefore wondered how the President could tell the good people of Ghana that he was going to commission the EOCO to investigate the matter when infact Mr. Martin Amidu had already done the same thing and submitted a detailed report to him three clear days before the President's media encounter.

Commenting on leadership style of President Mills since assuming office, Newton- Offei stated that the President Mills-led government was not exhibiting any seriousness in managing the affairs of the country. “The President and the people around him are not managing the affairs of the nation with any sense of urgency and seriousness. They are running the country as if they were at a circus where people go and watch animals and clowns, joke and laugh, and then go back home. We are not seeing any serious kind of leadership in our country”, he said.

He urged Ghanaians to reject the lies, deceit, corruption and gargantuan incompetence that has characterised President Mills's administration by voting for the Presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, come December 7, 2012.
