STATEMENT OF THE NATIONAL UNION OF GHANA STUDENTS (NUGS) ON THE ALLEGED GANG RAPED IN BENKUM SENIOR HIGH
The alleged gang-rape must be investigated thoroughly
The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) is disturbed with the alleged case of gang-raped of a form two female student by seven whooping male students in the Benkum Senior High School over the weekend on Saturday, 18 February, 2012.
NUGS is incensed because the incident has left the female student totally shuttered cladding her record of the event.
The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) would want the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (Dovvsu) of the Ghana Police Service in the Eastern Region to please handle the issue with the professionalism that is known of them so that sanity will be restored in the school since the other female students in the school are worried of their own security.
NUGS Women Commissioner, Miss. Ernestina Ofoe has been charged with the responsibility of meeting the alleged gang-raped victim in the Benkum Senior High School and the Union would furnish the Ghanaian public with the development of events.
The Union congratulates the School Prefect who reported the incident to the school officials; laud the school officials for doing the right thing by reporting the alleged incident to the Police service in the region which show their confidence in the security service; also want to encourage other students especially victims of such dehumanizing treatments to muster the needed clout to report such cases of abuse for possible punishments.
NUGS wishes the alleged victim well and it is the fervent prayer of the Union that she recuperates from this traumatizing incident.
Thank you.
