FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEMENT OF THE NATIONAL UNION OF GHANA STUDENTS (NUGS)

ON THE ACADEMIC SITUATION OF THE YENDI SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

GES MUST ACT ON YENDI SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL!
The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has conducted some research on the academic challenges of some Senior High schools across the length and breadth of the country and we are saddened to note that the situation pertaining on some campuses is sordid and life threatening.

Yendi Senior High school has a student population of a little above two thousand eight hundred (2800) with a teaching staff of about forty seven (47) taking the whole school. The gravest problem too is that, the school has only one teacher taking the subject Literature-in-English from forms one (1) right to four (4).

There have been times when students in the Business class have foregone teaching for a whole term.

This presents a serious situation. Mind you that, the forms four will be sitting for the West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) with students from schools with adequate teachers and enough attention for students.

The leadership of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) is heartbroken with the current situation in the school and would want to call upon the Ghana Education Service (GES) as well as the Ministry of Education (MOE) to remedy the situation immediately.

The situation on other schools like the Chemu Senior High School situated at Tema pose a timely-poised threat to our educational system and our national leadership must act swiftly and quickly to rescue our decaying educational system.

NUGS will not waiver to bring a most lasting solution to the challenges.

Thank you.
