NUGS-where are we heading Prof. Mills?

NUGS-where are we heading Prof. Mills?
06.02.2012 LISTEN

On the Petrol
The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) wants to tell Professor Mills and his Government audibly that we are still waiting on him to reinstate the Petroleum subsidizes he removed before we advise ourselves. We must state as a matter of fact that, since the Government removed the fuel subsidizes getting to the closing days of December, 2011, the Union has been unequivocal in its opposition to what we see as the uncaring and the un-fatherly attitude of the Mills-led-Mahama-administration.

Premised on the above, the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) supports the impending demonstration of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Tuesday, 7 February, 2012 and wishes to convey to the leadership of TUC and Ghanaians that the Union will join you come the day for us to champion a humanitarian cause.

Our decision to join the TUC demonstration is based on the untold hardship the Petrol increase has brought on Students and the Ghanaian masses in general. It is also based on our Union's outstanding relationship with TUC dating back to the Post Independence democratic struggle in Ghana.

However, the Union will not waiver in its attempt to take to the street before the end of February, 2012 should the Mills Government not heed to the demands of the progressive forces in the country. We are calling on all students and well-meaning Ghanaians in general to show up in their numbers come the day.

NUGS is declaring the “Atta-kill-me-slow-gargantuan Demo” which is non-negotiable.

On the Woyomegate
The Union has followed with keen interest discussions on our Radio Stations across the country on the Woyomegate.

We want to make it clear that, NUGS supports that, every individual who is found culpable must have the whip cracked on him or her. Negligence on the part of some Government officials is an unpardonable crime which must be punished dully by the respected laws of Ghana.

We would also like to call on the opposition parties to put an end to the petty partisan meaning they are reading into the all-important issue for us all as a nation to arrive at the point where we will take

back our money from this gentleman so that he and his collaborators will be punished thereafter accordingly.

The estimated over GHC51 Million given to Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome will be able to fund the education of about over thousand Ghanaian students especially those from poor homes from Primary to the tertiary school.

NUGS wants to appeal to Ghanaians that, the way the Professor Mills Government handles the Woyomegate scandal must also inform us as to the best person to fight corruption for our dear nation.

We want President Mills to know that NUGS will not stop at anything to hold him and his men accountable with vigilance till he does work on his 2008 election Manifesto promises to the good people of Ghana.
