'I will not go Independent'-B.B. Boateng
LISTEN

Koforidua, Nov. 1, GNA - Ms Beatrice Bernice Boateng, the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, has denied rumours that she was planning to run as an independent parliamentary candidate for next year's general election.

She said the rumour being peddled was baseless, unfounded and calculated to ridicule her in the eyes of the public.

Ms Boateng said she understood the tenets of democracy and therefore was satisfied with the voice of the people and would remain with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) despite her defeat in the party's parliamentary primary.

She lost the primary to Dr Asibbey Yeboah, an economist

Ms Boateeng told the GNA in an interview that she had no intention whatsoever to do anything that would spoil the chances of the NPP in wrestling power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2012 elections.

She said the fortunes of the NPP were above her interest and would not embark on any mission that had the tendency to erode the gains of the NPP in the area and reaffirmed her loyalty to the party.

Ms Boateng said although she had wished to have another chance to serve her people to ensure that women were empowered in the constituency, she had no grudge against anyone.

Ms Boateng was elected in 2008 after she had won the primary, which was contested by the incumbent, Mr yaw Barimah, a former Eastern Regional Minister.
