Midtjylland To Establish Ghana Acadamy

FC Midtjylland of Denmark have resolved to establish an academy in the capital by the end of the year .

Already, a land has been acquired in Accra while feasibility studies are ongoing to ensure a successful take-off.

The new move follows the success story so far chalked by division one side, FCM Maamobi, (aka Midtjylland) within a year of entering into agreement with the Danish division one side.

The new project was announced by Mr Fandfeld Bruno, doubles as a member of the FC Midtjylland Board of Directors in Denmark and chairman of the Ghana Board.

Disclosing this to the Graphic Sports during a short visit to the countr last week, Mr Bruno explained that the academy’s curricula will be 50 per cent sports and 50 per cent academic.

He spelt out football, tennis and handball as the three disciplines to be considered by the school. He also indicated that the academy will cover such categories as the U-12, U-14 and U-16.

The Dane revealed that the academy will not be exclusively for Ghanaians as players of FC Midtjylland youth teams will be brought down to be part of the system as part of their training and upbringing.

Mr Bruno who watched the local Midtjylland beat Accra Hearts of Oak 2-1 in a friendly match at Legon last Wednesday described it thus: “the team in Ghana is getting better and better”.

He was full of praise for the Chief Executive of the club, Alhaji Bimbo, for doing well to transform the team within a short time.

The academy project which he said is being undertaken by a community in Denmark is expected to accommodate 18,000 young players.

The main idea behind the concept, according to him, is to make it easy for Ghanaian players to adjust to the European system whenever they get the chance to play in Denmark and other EU countries
