Let's honour our elders - Daasebre Oti-Boateng

Koforidua, Sept. 15, GNA – Daasebre Professor Emeritus Oti-Boateng, Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Council, has said it is important for the country to honour and respect its retired officers.

He said those who have put up the foundation should not be forgotten and their welfare must be the concern of the state.

Daasebre Oti-Boateng made these comments at his palace in Koforidua during a courtesy call on him by the National Chairman of the Veterans' Association of Ghana (VAG).

He said the authorities needed to treat, with urgency, matters concerning veterans and pensioners in the country so that they could live in peace and share their rich experiences to the young.

He said the stability of the country is determined by the veterans because they have seen it all and as such need to be respected.

Daasebre Oti-Boateng called on the youth to tap every experience from the old ones whiles they live so that they could also continue with the good work of developing the country.

He urged that the VAG bill before Parliament should be earnestly considered in order to improve the general lot of veterans.

Commodore Steve Obimpeh, the new Chairman for VAG, thanked Daasebre Oti-Boateng for his words of encouragement and gave the assurance that his outfit would ensure that they worked hard for the betterment of the veterans in the country.

Commodore Obimpeh became Chairman of VAG in February this year was on a nation-wide tour to familiarize with members of the association.

He was accompanied by Group Captain Jones Mensah, Executive Director of VAG and Captain Victor Ansah, the Public Relations Officer.
