The 30-year-old pastor who raped five sisters at his prayer camp at Achiase in the Eastern Region, has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Akyem Swedru Circuit Court.

Pastor Yaw Nkansah, the convict, pleaded guilty with explanation for defiling a fifteen-year-old form one student, but after listening to his explanation, the presiding judge, Mr. Yaw Atta Sampong found him guilty and convicted him.

The student was the youngest of the five female victims.

Pastor Nkansah, who initially claimed to be the head pastor of the African Faith Tabernacle Church, however, told the court that he was the head pastor of the Jesus Faith Tabernacle Church.

The facts of the case as presented by Chief Inspector Adelaide Appiakorang were that somewhere in the first week of July, 2011, the mother of the complainant, called Ataa, and her late daughter Afia Baby fell sick and were taken to the prayer camp of the convict at Achiase to seek spiritual deliverance.

On July 15, 2011, the school girl visited the mother and the sister at the prayer camp. When Pastor Nkansah saw her, he told her that the devil had cast a prostitution spell on her and that he would deliver her from the evil spirit.

The same night, the accused took her to a hill in the bush and bathed her. Nkansah later took the girl to his room to dress up and when she entered the bedroom, he struggled with her to have sex with her but the complainant resisted.

All of a sudden, Pastor Nkansah allegedly poured some powder on the girl’s face and body and she fell unconscious.

When she regained consciousness, she realised that Nkansah had had sexual intercourse with her.

A report was made to the police leading to his arrest . During police interrogation, Pastor Nkansah admitted the offence and was arraigned before the court.

Passing sentence, the presiding judge, Mr Atta Sampong, condemned the accused’s assertion that the schoolgirl consented to his love proposal before having sex with her. He described his conduct as highly reprehensible and a disgrace to the entire clergy, adding that he should bow down his head in shame.
