The Osu Mankralo ,Nii Ako Nortei IV ,has asked the government to scrap the Ministry of chieftaincy Affairs because it is not playing any role to help the chieftaincy institution.
”If the establishment of the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs was just to receive registration letters from the house of chiefs ,then the government is wasting the tax payers money on that ministry” he asserted.
Nii Nortei made this statement at a press conference to commemorate his 20 years on the throne as Osu Mankralo.
He said if the government was barred from meddling in chieftaincy affairs as enshrined in the Constitution of Ghana, why was the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs created .
He claimed the government was to blame for most of the chieftaincy problems confronting the nation.
Nii Norteisaid some of the confusions were deliberate to prevent the chiefs from collectingroyalties from companies and money due them by the government.
’If the chiefs fight ,they say we cannot deal with any of these factions and keep the money” he asserted.
He said the government only brought them some drinks and token money each year to celebrate their festivities instead of helping them develop their areas.
Nii Nortei also asked the youth to desist from taking money from chiefs to create confusion and anarchy but should rather redirect their attention to governments who are usually the cause of their problems.
On his achievements during his 20 years as Mankralo ,he recounted the unity he had brought various factions in the Osu families, quarters and chiefs.
He debunked the allegation that he was influential in the enstoolment of two chiefs at Osu ,and said he cannot enstool an Osu chief but was only a witness at the installation of the new Osu chief.
He said Nii Nortey Owuo III was destooled in 1986 by the Osu Kingmakers before he was made the Mankralo .”I tried to bring him back and unify the people ,but the king makers and the people resisted” how do I take the blame now?he questioned.
