Accra, Aug. 26, GNA - Abubakar Nallah, Chief Executive Officer of Tudu Mighty Jets, a Premier League Club, and nine officials of Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) accused of assisting Edward Macauley, a suspected drug dealer to transport drugs from Ghana to some foreign countries, on Friday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.
Each was charged with two counts of abetment of importation and exportation of narcotic drugs.
They all pleaded not guilty and were remanded into prison custody to re-appear on September 9.
The rest are, Fatimatu Abdulai, Denis Adutwum Gyimah, Yakubu Issaka and Timothy Aboloimpo.
The others are Peter Ansong, Mutawa Kilu Yahaya Iddi, Jerry John Kwesi Abbiw, Eric Darko Akuffo and Nana Zamsah Evrah.
A bail application by their counsels were turned down by the Court presided over by Mr Eric Kyei Baffour.
Police Superintendent Adzei Boye, prosecuting indicated that Nallah and the other accused persons were operatives stationed at NACOB Headquarters in Accra.
He said some of the accused persons had ever worked or are presently working at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) and during 2009-2011 were assigned to be checking and arresting passengers carrying narcotic drugs.
Superintendent Boye said sometime in July this year, a suspected narcotic drug dealer Edward Macauley, who had been on the wanted list in the USA was arrested at Dansoman in Accra.
During investigations, text messages purported to have been received from Fatimatu, a NACOB operative, were found on the cell phones of Macauley.
The text message, Superintendent Boye said pointed to the fact that Fatimatu together with other NACOB operatives had been aiding Macauley and others to import and export drugs through KIA.
The prosecutor said Fatimatu was subsequently arrested and during interrogation admitted the offence.
Superintendent Boye said Fatimatu mentioned names of NACOB operatives and other security personnel including the accused persons, who had compromised their position and allowed drug couriers safe passage after receiving various monies from them.
He said investigations were on-going.
