The Institute of Packaging, Ghana (IOPG) has commended G-Pak, a subsidiary of the Graphic Communications Group Limited, for its sense of excellence and professionalism.

The Co-ordinator of the institute, Mr Ebenezer Mante, made the commendation when he led participants in a four-day regional packaging training programme in Accra on a tour of G-Pak to acquaint themselves with its operations.

The training programme was organised by the International Trade Centre (ITC), Geneva, and the IOPG, with sponsorship from the European Commission (EC).

The theme for the programme was, “Maximising export performance through better packaging solutions”.

Poor packaging has been identified as one of the major reasons for the failure of locally manufactured goods to compete favourably with imported ones.

It was for this reason that the training programme was organised for participants from Ghana, Kenya and Uganda who will then become trainers in their respective countries in order to position the continent for the gains from packaging.

Mr Mante said G-Pak was selected as part of the training programme because it is among the best printing industries in the country where the participants could have practical experience of what they learnt during the programme.

The Senior International Consultant, Export Packaging Enterprise Competitiveness at the ITC, Mr Rajiv Dhar, for his part, said only a few institutions in Africa had facilities comparable to those at the G-Pak.

He commended G-Pak for its commitment and excellent performance as far as packaging was concerned.
