ONE-TIME CLOSE ally of Former President Rawlings, Alfred Woyome, has alleged that most of the close allies of the Rawlingses are not true Ghanaians but Togolese.

Mr. Woyome, who is currently a co-opted member of the Volta Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said his assertions are based on credible information gathered from sources he held close to his chest.

Notable among the perceived Togolese in the Konadu Campaign team as claimed by Mr. Woyome, is Siki Abibu, the Volta Regional Deputy Youth Organiser of the NDC, who has openly declared his support for Konadu, and the main coordinator of the campaign in the Volta Region.

Another name that has popped up is that of Kofi Adams', aide to the Rawlingses and Deputy General Secretary of the NDC.

Mr Woyome noted that some investigations conducted into the backgrounds of the two devotees of Nana Konadu revealed that they have changed their names to sound more Ghanaian and pleasant in order to hide their Togolese identities.

Mr. Woyome, who is believed to be a major financier of the Atta Mills campaign in the 2008 general elections and who stood solidly behind the Rawlingses at the celebration of 2010 June 4, stated that the real name of Siki Abibu is Sikiru Abibu.

He added that 'Sikiru' started life as a newspaper vendor in Hohoe when he was brought to Ghana. He said almost all the family members of Siki are presently living in Togo.

Regarding Kofi Adams, Mr. Woyome mentioned that his real name is Kofi Adamu and that 'Adamu' was the original name given him (Kofi Adams). He said he is surprised the two men will reject the names their fathers have given them just to cover up their identities.

He explained that Kofi Adams is part of the first generation of Kotokoli immigrants who came to settle in Kadjebi in the Volta Region from Togo. Mr. Woyome therefore warned the two to 'stop babbling their mouths' and mind their own business before the law catches up with them.

He also noted that anyone who deals with them does so at their own risk because 'people like that have nothing to lose because their families are in Togo'.

When contacted for their reactions, Siki Abibu and Kofi Adams laughed at the allegations and asked Woyome not to waste his time investigating unnecessary issues. They challenged Woyome to provide evidence over his claims or bow his head in shame.

Kofi Adams noted: 'Why will I waste my time on something that is verifiable. I attended school, I have mates and I have also worked and so there are more than enough documents to prove my nationality.'

Siki Abidu also added: 'Woyome is not serious, if he has run out of ideas and words it is better he shuts his mouth than make unnecessary allegations.'

Woyome, a former Vice Honorary Consul of Austria, explained that his support for President Mills is to prevent a 'self-destructive mechanism set up on Jerry Rawlings by his supporters who are making him believe in lies that his wife has a chance of winning'.

He alleged that most of the close allies of the former first couple do not understand the principles of the revolution and for that matter they are misleading the Rawlingses into believing in a fantasy that will denigrate their integrity and respect accorded them by their many sympathizers.

Mr. Woyome said, 'These Togolese and default Ghanaians have nothing to lose because their families are in Togo; as a result they are bent on dragging the Rawlingses into a self-destructive mission which must be prevented by cadres like me who believe in the principles of the revolution and are ready to uphold them at all times'.

He said he had worked for Rawlings. 'I was part of the revolution and a member of the June 4th Education Committee. I am a cadre and I will forever be a cadre. However my decision to disagree with Rawlings and support Atta Mills is based on the contest of democracy. I only disagree with the Rawlingses, I am not fighting with them,' he told DAILY GUIDE in a telephone interview.

He added that 'Jerry is my friend and I respect him and his wife. I have always supported them, but my disagreement with them this time is to protect the achievement of the revolution and the record set by Rawlings himself, by being a democratic leader and handing over power peacefully without employing any other means.'

Mr. Woyome argued that the ambition of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings under the watchful eyes and support of her husband, the NDC founder, is tantamount to a coup d'état against President Mills.

He said, 'I disagree with Rawlings using another means through his wife, Nana Konadu to become the First Gentleman by which he will be taking over power again. That is a coup d'état against the sitting President.'

Kofi Adams rubbished Woyome's claims, asking 'What has contesting an election got to do with one's democratic records?'

'It is rather those who are preventing Nana Konadu from contesting who are being undemocratic,' Kofi Adams added.
