THE HEADMASTER of the Bodwesango Senior High School (SHS) in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region, Nana Osarfo Akowuah, has appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to assist the school construct a science laboratory.
He said the acquisition of a well-resourced and equipped science laboratory would enhance the teaching of science courses in the school, towards the country's scientific and technological advancement.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the school's Cadet Corps at Bodwesango, the Headmaster stressed: 'Notwithstanding the numerous academic achievements chalked by the school over the years, it is still faced with a number of challenges, including the lack of a science laboratory.'
He said in this era of globalization, science was not only relevant to education, but also to the students' creative abilities, to enable them overcome the challenges facing the world.
Speaking on the theme 'The role of the youth in educational development,' the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Adansi North, Alhaji Abdul Lateef Madjoub, charged the students to learn hard to bring profit to the investments being made by their parents.
'If you are able to prove to your parents and to society that the investments being made on you are worthwhile, many parents would be encouraged to send their children to school,' he noted, and added that the government would initiate programmes that would enhance quality education delivery in the country.
The Kontihene of the Edubiase Divisional Area, Nana Asirifi Asare II, who represented the acting President of the Adansi Traditional Council, Nana Sobin Kan, expressed concern over the increasing level of indiscipline among students in the country.
The Ashanti Regional Director of Education Mr. Joseph K. Onyinah, on his part, was hopeful the existence of the school's Cadet Corps would enhance the maintenance of discipline at the school.
