11 communities in Ellembelle connected to national power grid

In fulfillment of a  promise to the people of the Ellembelle constituency, 11 communities have been connected to the national grid, under the Self-Help Electrification Project (SHEP) in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.

At the commissioning of the projects in the various communities the Ag. Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr. Anthony Asan, called on the people to monitor the projects, and point out any faults they may notice for rectification.

He indicated that the district officers of the ECG would visit the communities to educate them on electricity usage, and called on them to manage the electricity wisely, in order not to create problems for themselves.

The beneficiary communities are Salman, Awiaso, Sendu, Aiyinase-Nyamebekyere, Kanokware, Atababo, Ekokonu, Fiasoro, Aluku, Asasetre-Nyamebekyere and Adubrim.

At Adubrim, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, was carried in a palanquin amidst songs of praises from the outskirts of the town to the ceremony grounds.

One of the Chiefs of Adubrim, Nana Assua Miea III, said they had voted for people in the past years, but had not seen a man of his word such as the MP, and thanked the government and the MP for the project.

The Odikro of Nyamebekyere also described the MP as a man who had love for the rural settlers, adding that the beginning of his works portray that he would deliver them from their woes, and therefore appealed to the MP to interact with the Ministry of Roads and Highways to construct their road to deliver them from suffering during the rainy seasons.

The MP, also the Deputy Minister for Energy, was hopeful that the electricity supply would improve exams marks in the communities, and that he would link them to the rest of the world, as he promised to donate computers to the schools for the purpose of information communication technology (ICT).

He also promised to provide CHIP compounds, in collaboration with the Health Directorate, to the communities, and therefore, prevailed upon them to rally behind him with prayers to make his visions for the constituency a reality.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ellembelle, Mr. Daniel K. Eshun, called on the communities to stay in unity to augment the development of their various communities.

He pointed out that it was because of their roads, that the Assembly had procured a grader to reshape them temporarily, until the government gets the resources for the actual construction.

Mr. Eshun prevailed upon the communities to rekindle the communal spirit to initiate projects for the Assembly to support them, and again, appealed to parents to ensure that their children use the light in learning for it to reflect in their studies, other than watching television.

The DCE however, appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Paul Tawiah Quaye, to send more police personnel to the Ellembelle District to enhance security in the area.

According to him, the District had become more vibrant than it used to be, since mining and other business activities had taken centre stage, adding that the nine existing personnel cannot meet the challenges of the activities.

He made the call at the handing over of the rehabilitated Esiama Police Station to the Ghana Police Service.

Mr. Eshun further appealed for a Commander to be posted to the Ellembelle District, and appealed for the construction of the Atuabo Police Station, and the renovation of the Nkroful Police Station.

He said the Assembly was ready to partner the police administration enhance security, adding that it was in that direction that the Assembly renovated the Esiama Police Station at the cost of GH¢26,900, and therefore, appealed to the police to maintain the structure.

The Director of Projects at the Police Headquarters in Accra, ACP Joseph K. Sika-Nartey, thanked the Assembly for the good work done, and promised to communicate the concerns raised to the IGP for the necessary action.
