Kade (E/R), Oct. 7, GNA - Kade Senior High Technical School, is converting its former pig pen into classrooms to facilitate the enrolment of students for the 2010/2011 academic year.
Mr Rexford Boadi-Danquah, Headmaster of the school who made this known to Ghana News Agency at Kade in the Eastern Region, said a total of 333 students have been selected under the computerised schools selection and placement System for admission although there are no classrooms to accommodate all of them.
He said despite the promise by officials of the Ghana Education Service that the school is among 160 schools selected to benefit from a six-unit classroom block project each, there is nothing on the ground.
"In fact no contractor had moved to the school to start any construction," he stressed.
Mr Boadi-Danquah said the completion of a seven- classroom block under construction by the Parent-Teacher Association at the school's new site would help solve the problem.
He said due to lack of funds, work on the project had come to a stand still.
"Work on the ground floor of the storey building had however reached advance stage and what is left is partitioning of the block and cementing of the floor."
The school was established in 1982 at the abandoned premises of the match factory of the Industrial Development Corporation, set up in 1959.
The school founded by the citizens of Kade was later absorbed into the public education system.
The academic facility, which started with 12 students in 1982, can boast of a population of 1,352 during last academic year.
The day school has a hostel built by the Ghana Education Trust Fund to accommodate 200 girls and a house mistress.
Mr Boadi-Danquah said the facility has helped increased the enrolment of girls.
He expressed appreciation to the Member of Parliament for Kade, Mr Ofosu Asamoah for paying the salaries of three security men, a driver and a cleaner.
