The current batch of students of Accra Academy have been enlightened about the history and brain behind the school’s slogan ‘Bleoo.’
Mr N.A Adjin-Tettey, an old student who is credited with the term ‘bleoo,’ said the term means “remain calm.”
He explained that Accra Academy was scheduled to participate in a sports competition that had Achimota School as the defending champions.
He said while on a train with the Achimota team to the venue, the students of Achimota made so much noise based on their past glory while the students from Academy kept quiet.
Addressing the students during their 79th Founders Day Celebration, Mr Tettey, who was then an athlete, asked his colleagues to remain calm ( bleoo) since the end justifies the means.
According to him, at the end of the competition, they beat Achimota School and on their way home, all the students took to the term “ bleoo” in response to “Accra Aca.”
The occasion also saw other old students of the school sharing their experiences with the students.
Mr Reginald Nii Bi Ayi-Bonte of 1982 year group, Dr Godwin Addo Tagoe of 1969 group, Dr Ebenezer Quashie Blavo of the 1944 year group, Mr Daniel Addo and Mr Robert Yartey who addressed the students, advised them to focus on their studies and be wary of those they befriend.
