February 22, 2010
Cape Coast , Feb. 22, GNA - The University of Cape Coast (UCC) branch of the Konongo Odumase Senior High School (KOSS) old students association on Saturday hosted the third annual inter-tertiary congress at UCC.
The congress, which was under the theme "Attitude change towards nation building: the role of tertiary students" brought together old students of KOSS in the various tertiary institutions across the country, as well as some present students of the school.
In a speech read for him, the headmaster of KOSS, Mr. Kwame Adu Brempong Opoku, urged the students to learn hard and strive to climb the social ladder in order to contribute their quota to their alma mater and the country at large.
He called on them to project the name of the school which he said has produced many prominent people serving in various capacities such as judges, lawyers, doctors, engineers, accountants, both in and outside the country.
Mr. Brempong advised the students to be humble, obedient, patient and honest, and trust in God to reward them with successes.
He said that the school has since 2004 undertaken some infrastructural development and pledged that it will continue to instill discipline among students to ensure tremendous improvement in academic performance.
He said 98% of 541 students presented for the 2009 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) obtained passes, and that KOSS were the national champions for both the 2008 and 2009 inter- schools debate.
For her part, the Assistant Headmistress of KOSS, Mrs. Comfort Agyemang, reiterated calls on the students to put in their best since "the sky is the limit", adding that they should visit their alma mater very often in order to interact with the present students and also give back to the school.
The Chief Executive Officer of Elzak Media Consult, Alhaji Razak El-Alawa, an old boy of the school, observed that it would be difficult for the current students to relate well with successful mates if they failed to work harder and excel.
