NDC headquarters moves to Tamale

The NDC headquarters in Accra has moved to Tamale since Thursday, January 14, and will operate from there till the end of the congress.
The arrival date for the congress is today, January 15, and National Executive Meeting would take place on the same day.

A release from the party's headquarters wished all members and sympathizers a safe journey and the contestants, the best of success in the elections. “May the delegate decide in the best interest of party,” it said.

At the time of going to press, hundreds of party supporters and sympathizers were waiting at the National Headquarters at Kokomlemle in Accra to board vehicles to Tamale. Hundreds had already left, according to the people the Times spoke to.

At Tamale itself, security personnel are in a state of alert to ensure a violence-free congress.

In an interview, the Northern Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh, stated that there will be six check-points on all roads leading to the congress venue.

According to him, there would be a 24hour police guard at the main conference hall of the congress.

Chief Inspector Tetteh added that on the day of the congress, no one will be allowed entry into the hall without accreditation. Police at the main entrance of the congress hall would search every person before being allowed into the hall. That, he said, would ensure that no one smuggled any dangerous weapon into the hall to cause confusion.

Chief Inspector Tetteh also stated that the Northern Regional Police Command Thursday met with the youth groups of both the NDC and NPP.

The police urged them to behave well during and after the congress, and warned that the police would deal ruthlessly with any group or individual who would try to disturb the peace.
