The Coalition of Student Activists of Ghana (COSAG), Legon branch would want to use this platform to laud the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) for its ingenuity in initiating the first ever National Students Award which is billed to take place in April this year. We, the members of the branch see this single act crafted by Mr. Dan Thompson - the NUGS Program and Projects Secretary under the Presidency of Mr. Tweneboah Kodua as a harbinger of the reawakening, revival and the renewal of a body whose perverse tale of dysfunction has played out over the past year and which still has several twists in store for the nation-wide audience.
The award which is in categories of ten include: Most Creative and Innovative Student, Best Student Writer/Author, Best Student Journalist, Best Student Entrepreneur, The Most Versatile Student, Best Male and Female Student Leaders, Best Student Advocate/Activist, Best Sports Personality (Football, Basketball, Tennis, Athletics Hockey, and Volley), Best Campus Group/Club and Best Student
Thesis/Project is a medium for acknowledging the contribution of students in consolidating our trickling democratic gains, bolstering our economy and the human resource development of our country.
By this release, the coalition would like to lay a clarion call to all tom dicks and harry in the University of Ghana to utilize this opportune occasion inorder to maximize their full potentials. We would also want to appeal to the leadership of the SRC and the various JCR's to take an effective stand in all NUGS related activities.
It is worth reinforcing that the University of Ghana played an instrumental role in the formative stages of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) and that the effectiveness or otherwise of NUGS is inherent in the perceptive role Legon plays together with the other institutions.
We also laud the local NUGS president Mr. Frank Ababio and his secretary Mr. Vincent for their perpetual contribution and attendance of all NUGS related activities. We also appreciate the effective role of the Acting President of the SRC Miss Rebecca Delong for cooperating with the External Affairs Committee of the SRC.
