The National Media Commission (NMC) in consultation with the President terminated the appointment of Mr. Seth Ago Adjetey as Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, with effect from Monday, August 26, 2002. Ms. Eva Lokko, Regional Programme Co-ordinator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Internet Initiative for Africa, based in Ghana, replaces him. A statement issued in Accra yesterday and signed by the Chairman of the NMC, Mr. Nutifafa Kuenyehia said, "the Commission has further in consultation with the President and in line with Article 168 of the constitution, appointed Ms. Eva Lokko as the Director-General of GBC, with effect from September 2, 2002." Ms. Lokko therefore becomes the first woman to head GBC. She is an ICT Specialist and a Broadcast Engineer and has held management positions in three organisations - GBC, the Institute of Media Training (UK) and UNDP in New York and Ghana. The statement said Ms. Lokko has developed a broad range of management skills which include ICT Solution Delivery, Negotiation Resource Mobilisation, Human Resource Management Policy Development and Strategic Planning. She has been the Regional Programme Co-ordinator of the UNDP Internet Initiative for Africa, based in Ghana from 1999 to date. Between 1991 and 1999, she was the ICT Manager (UNDP Country Offices) for the UNDP in the USA and a Systems Analyst/Programmer with the UNDP in the USA. Between 1989 and 1987, Ms. Lokko worked as Consultant, Systems Analyst, with the UNIFEM in the USA; Head of Television of the Institute of Media Training of the UK and a Broadcast Engineer for GTV. The statement continued that she started her working life in 1972 as a Television Technician (Studios/Outside Broadcast) with GTV. She holds two MSc Degrees in Electrical Engineering and Intelligent Management Systems. She also has additional professional qualifications in Management Skills organised by the UNDP, Engineering Management and Operations held by the Sony Broadcast of the UK; Colour Television Management and Operations held by NEC of Japan and Television and Radio Broadcasting organised by GBC.
