Minister Asked To Resign

PRESSURE HAS began mounting on the Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Eric Opoku, following the arrest of a suspected murderer in his bedroom.   

Kwasi Adu, the suspected killer who has been on the police wanted list for a long time over his involvement in the shooting of an innocent evangelist at Sankore in the Asunafo South District of the Brong Ahafo Region, was busted by the police at the deputy minister's residence at Sakumono, near Accra.   

Following this unhealthy development, the Acting National Coordinator of TESCON Alumni (TESCONA), an umbrella of all former TESCON members and executives of the main opposition party, the NPP, has asked the minister to resign honourably to allow smooth investigations into the matter to come out with all those behind the heinous crime.   

According to Emmanuel Tweneboa Kodua, the minister's resignation will not only enhance smooth investigation but also save his image if truly he knows nothing about the incident.   

“We of TESCONA believe that the stay of the minister in office may affect smooth investigation into the matter and as such, he must resign honourably,” he told Space FM, a Sunyani-based private radio station on telephone.   

 The TESCONA Coordinator said that in the event the minister refuses to resign, President John Evans Atta Mills should compel him to do so in the interest of ensuring fairness and justice.   

The suspect, Kwasi Adu, and two others, Baba Iddrisu and Kwabena Noah, now at large, supporters of the NDC, went on rampage in the town recently and allegedly attacked NPP sympathizers.   

During the rampage on July 19 this year, the NDC hoodlums, with impunity, shot 40-year-old Kwame Nyame, a farmer and an evangelist of the Deeper Life Christian Ministry and fled Sankore after the shooting.   

The deceased passed away two weeks after being hospitalized under intensive care at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi, where he had been referred to.   

Having fled the town following their unruly conduct, information reached some residents in the town that Kwasi Adu, the man who allegedly fired the fatal shot, was hiding in the house of the minister, one-time MP for the area.   

Meanwhile, the deputy minister has said the suspected killer was hiding in his house at the time of his arrest but he suspects foul play in the manner the arrest was carried out.
