... ahead of today clash with RTU

THE management of Okwawu United, faced with a string of disappointing results this season, have taken a bold step towards strengthening the team with the acquisition of three new players.

When they line up against Real Tamale United in an outstanding premier league match in Accra today, Okwawu would be expected to field Nii Armah Welbeck, Alex Odamtten and Samuel Okaija Thompson whose card 'A' was secured on Monday.

Both Welbeck and Odamtten once featured for the Soccer Mountaineers before the former joined German side FC Lubeck.

Thompson, a member of the silver medal-winning Black Satellites team, was until Monday the key player of Top Allies International.

Okwawu management are also working hard to secure the International Transfer Certificate (ITC) of Nii Ayi Welbeck, elder brother of Nii Armah, who once featured for the club before seeking greener pastures in Europe. They hope that his ITC would arrive in time to enable the midfielder feature in Sunday's league match against Goldfields at Obuasi.

The Asase Aban lads, who moved their base from Nkawkaw to Accra this season, have recorded just one victory in five matches and currently occupy the 14th position in the 16-club league.

This poor run led to agitation by their supporters who recently demanded the resignation of their new coach Philip Boamah, after Okwawu's 1-0 defeat to Liberty Professionals.

The club's management concedes that their performance so far is not good and the supporters' concerns are legitimate, but are hopeful that the rebuilding exercise would soon pay dividends. And in the light of these developments, they have called on Okwawu followers to continue to show their support by patronising the club's matches.
