CAN ALAN (CASH) BE THE ANSWER TO NPP?

CAN ALAN CASH BE THE ANSWER TO NPP?
18.06.2009 LISTEN

I like Nana Akuffo Addo. That's not a 'cool' thing to say in the media at the moment, the bandwagon of anti-Nana writers is growing by the day. Despite the mess the NPP created in the last eight years in government, I still think Nana Akuffo Addo is an intelligent, trustworthy and decisive man, a good leader to have in the present crisis facing the New Patriotic Party. But do I think he should be our President? No, for one simple reason - he can't communicate and humble himself to the ordinary people in Ghana.

Every time I see poor old Nana talk I want to end it all. He's either creepily happy to the point of nausea or he's morbidly depressing, there's little in-between. We look across the pond and see Barack Obama charming audiences with his fresh, well-delivered speeches then we look back at our TV sets and see Nana either struggling to save his political life with an (understandably) moped face or see him at other social events saying how much he likes John Agyekum Kuffour, with a hideously forged smile. Doesn't seem fair does it? Where's NPP charismatic leader to deliver them? Where's their hope?

So what's the alternative for NPP? Realistically the only alternative at the moment is Mr. Alan Kyeremanteng. I don't like Alan, I think he's smarmy and I don't think he really has many strong ideas of his own. He jumped on the back of wrong policies, and pretends to offer solution. But say what you like about Alan, he talks a good talk and in modern politics if you can do that you're half way there. He speaks with confidence, passion and energy and that's exactly what we need to hear at the moment.

The New Patriotic Party needs change in its political organizational structure, the party members need light at the end of the tunnel; they really need hope. Will all that come if/when Alan is elected? I doubt it, but they probably won't be feeling so morbid every time we see the news and that's a start at least.
