1ST AFRICAN DIASPORA & CONTINENTAL WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

Monday 19 January 2009 - Atlanta GA. The 1st African Diaspora and Continental Women in Leadership Conference will be held from 9-11 March 2009 at the Georgia World Congress Centre in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

This historical event will celebrate International Women's Week 2009, by bringing together over 600 women leaders from the African Continent and in the Diaspora working at the grassroots, at community levels; in Private and Public Sectors; Third Sector bodies (Faith based organisations, NGOs; Quangos; Charitable concerns and non profit organisations; as well as traditional leaders etc). The Conference will conclude with an Awards Ceremony to celebrate, recognise and reward women leaders in their various roles.

Invited guests include some of the most powerful women in Africa and the Diaspora such as Michelle Obama, First Lady of the USA; President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia; The Hon. Luisa Dias Diogo, Prime Minister of Mozambique; Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Managing Director, World Bank; Prof. Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke, Director General, Nigerian Stock Exchange;, Condoleezza Rice, former US Secretary of State; Sandra Finley, President and CEO, League of Black Women; Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro, Deputy Secretary-General, United Nations; Oprah Winfrey, America's celebrated television Talk Show Queen and Entrepreneur; Wangari Maathai, Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize Winner; as well as First Ladies of various African Nations and States, among others.

Under the theme: Towards Meaningful Global Partnership and Dialogue, the Conference will lay the foundation for the coming together of African Diaspora women and those of the Continent to accelerate the pace of partnership and dialogue towards poverty alleviation and eradication where possible, and impacting positively the quality of life for each other, our communities, families and the globe at large.

Among other topics, the Conference will address Goals Number 1, 3, 8 of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); Strategic Leadership (tailored for women); Avenues of Wealth Creation for the 21st Century Woman of Colour; Women Leaders and Peace Advocacy (creating an effective lobbying group); The Gender Gap in Education; Inequality in Economic Structures and Policies, in all forms of productive activities and in access to resources; and will conclude with an Interactive Forum on Exchange of Ideas and Experiences

The 1st African Diaspora and Continental Women in Leadership Conference is organised by the International Non-Governmental Organisation (INGO) Third Sector Resource in collaboration with the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, USA. While Perryfield Promotions, a UK based international PR company has been tasked with marketing and sourcing sponsorship for the Conference, in addition to co-ordinating international participation.
