Standard Chartered has marked Customer Service Month with a skills-based Employee Volunteering (EV) engagement at Mamprobi Hospital, bringing together employees of the Bank and nurses to exchange perspectives and experiences on delivering exceptional service.
The engagement formed part of the Bank’s activities for Customer Service Month, observed under the theme “Extra Mile.”
While banking and healthcare operate in different environments, both share a common goal: creating positive experiences for the people they serve. The session provided an opportunity for Standard Chartered employees and nurses at Mamprobi Hospital to exchange practical experiences and learn from each other.
The engagement began with an interactive Service Charades session, where participants explored everyday behaviours that contribute to good service.
Standard Chartered employees also shared the Bank’s Service Commitments and how these guide the delivery of positive client experiences, while nurses from Mamprobi Hospital shared their perspectives on patient care and the realities of delivering service in a healthcare environment.
Through a joint Q&A and open discussion, participants explored principles that cut across both industries, including confidentiality, listening, empathy and professionalism. Both groups also shared some of the challenges they encounter and ideas on how they can continue to improve service for clients and patients.
The engagement reinforced a simple but important message: great service requires continuous learning and improvement. Whether in banking or healthcare, every interaction presents an opportunity to make the people being served feel heard, valued and supported.
For Standard Chartered, employee volunteering extends the Bank’s expertise beyond banking and into the communities it serves. Globally, employees receive three days of paid volunteering each year, with skills-based volunteering enabling them to put their professional knowledge to work in communities. By sharing service insights and learning from others, the Bank brings this commitment to life, placing people at the heart of service.
