The National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) has held consultations with stakeholders in the Bono East Region as part of efforts to review Ghana's 2020 National Security Strategy (NSS).
The engagement was aimed at identifying emerging security challenges confronting the region and gathering recommendations from participants to inform the review of the national policy document.
Representatives from government institutions, security agencies, departments, civil society organisations and other relevant bodies took part in the meeting.
Speaking at the opening session in Techiman, Director of Legal at the NSCS, George Loh, said the review was necessary to ensure the strategy remained relevant and responsive to evolving national security threats.
He emphasised that national security should be approached from a human-centred perspective, noting that protecting the country was not the sole responsibility of the police and military.
Mr Loh urged participants to actively contribute their experiences and recommendations, stressing that every citizen and institution had a role to play in safeguarding the country.
“Everyone is a major stakeholder in the nation's security journey," he stated.
The Bono East Regional Development Planning Officer, Beatrice Osei Asare, welcomed the review exercise, describing it as an important initiative.
She encouraged stakeholders to participate actively in the consultations to ensure their concerns and suggestions were adequately reflected in the revised strategy.
