The Minority Caucus in Parliament has demanded the immediate resignation of Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa over his handling of Ghana’s evacuation exercise in South Africa.
The caucus has urged President John Dramani Mahama to dismiss the minister if he refuses to step down, warning that it will initiate a vote of censure if its demands are not met.
The Minority’s concerns centre on the reported GH¢49.72 million spent on evacuating 1,964 Ghanaians from South Africa between May 27 and September 4, 2026.
It has questioned aspects of the expenditure, including alleged discrepancies in payment records and claims that some evacuees received less than the announced GH¢5,500 support package.
However, Ablakwa has denied wrongdoing, insisting that all eligible evacuees received the full support package. He has also welcomed a comprehensive audit of the evacuation exercises to establish accountability.
