Newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) Women’s Organizer for the Biakoye Constituency, Oppong Annie, has pledged to prioritise women’s empowerment and grassroots mobilisation as she prepares to lead the party’s women’s wing towards the 2028 general elections.
She said women remained a critical component of the NDC’s campaign structure and that strengthening their participation at the grassroots level would be central to improving the party’s electoral prospects.
“Work, work that is on the ground — that is why I have strategized to empower the women,” she stated.
Oppong Annie said practical measures to empower women would enable them to contribute more effectively to the party’s mobilisation and campaign activities.
“Once the women’s wing is strong, supporting the men going forward, 2028 will be easy for the party. Women’s empowerment is key,” she added.
She also called on members to put aside disagreements arising from the constituency elections and work together towards the party’s broader objectives.
While acknowledging that competition was an integral part of internal party democracy, she said unity and collaboration among constituency executives, branch organisers and supporters would be essential to building a stronger party structure.
“Unity is something that is very important in the party. Whatever the work is, I alone cannot do it; the work is done by all of us,” she said.
The newly elected Women’s Organizer stressed that the responsibility of strengthening the party could not rest on one person but required the active involvement of all members and stakeholders.
She assured party members that her administration would serve the entire constituency, irrespective of their choices in the internal election.
Oppong Annie expressed gratitude to branch women organisers, the Member of Parliament (MP), the District Chief Executive (DCE) and supporters for their contributions to the party’s activities.
She further assured members who supported other candidates that they would be welcomed and included in her administration.
“I am the Women’s Organizer for Biakoye, not a part of Biakoye,” she declared.
