The President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Justice Charlyne Brumskine, has called for stronger institutional support and collective action to ensure the effective enforcement of the court’s judgments across the West African sub-region.

She made the call during a working visit to the President of the ECOWAS Commission, General Birame Diop, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, on October 22.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the two institutions and ensuring that judgments delivered by the Community Court are respected and implemented by member states.

Justice Brumskine stressed the need for greater collaboration to improve compliance with the court’s decisions.

The meeting was attended by the Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, Anthony Oluwatosin Ogunjimi, and the Commissioner for Internal Services, Dr Kalilou Sylla.

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation, upholding the rule of law and advancing regional integration.

They also emphasised the importance of accessible justice and the effective implementation of the court’s judgments, describing them as essential to building public trust and promoting good governance.

The institutions further underscored the need to translate the ECOWAS vision 2050 into reality through stronger institutional collaboration and respect for the Community’s legal framework.
