World Vision Ghana has provided essential medical equipment to the newly completed Agorhokpo Health Centre, enabling the facility to move towards full operation months after its commissioning by the Agortime-Ziope District Assembly.
The health centre, which began as a legacy project in 2014, was completed in 2026 after being abandoned for more than eight years. Although the facility was commissioned, it could not operate at full capacity because it lacked the necessary equipment.
The latest intervention is expected to improve access to healthcare for residents of Agorhokpo and neighbouring communities who previously had to travel long distances to obtain medical services within the Agortime-Ziope District.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, World Vision Ghana’s National Director, Joshua Roland Baidoo, described the transformation of the facility as exceptional and an example of the impact of collaboration.
"When I last visited here, this facility looked like an abandoned structure, but today the story is completely different. This is a clear demonstration of all of us working together to operationalize this facility," Mr. Baidoo said.
He commended the Member of Parliament for Agortime-Ziope, Charles Agbeve, the District Chief Executive, the District Assembly and the Ghana Health Service for their commitment to completing and operationalising the facility.
Mr. Baidoo said partnership remained one of World Vision’s core values, adding that although the equipment might not address every need of the centre, it was intended to bridge critical gaps in maternal and child healthcare and support safe deliveries and quality service delivery.
"The equipment we are handing over today addresses the most critical areas of maternal and child health. We cherish every child because every child is precious to God and precious to us. We go where services are needed most – to the hardest-to-reach areas," he stated.
He urged health workers and community members to use the equipment responsibly and ensure its proper maintenance. He also praised the Volta Regional Health Directorate for posting nurses to the centre, emphasising that adequate staffing was essential to the effective operation of any health facility.
The Agortime-Ziope MP, Charles Agbeve, described World Vision Ghana’s intervention as significant support, noting that equipping and operationalising a health facility could be as costly as constructing the building itself.
"One thing about health infrastructure is that the cost of putting up the building is almost equal to the cost of equipping it. Operationalizing a health facility is always expensive. That is why when you have a partner like World Vision coming to your aid with this kind of support, it goes a long way. We cannot thank World Vision enough," Hon. Agbeve said.
He disclosed that the centre was initiated as a legacy project in 2014, when he became MP, but remained neglected for more than eight years until the District Chief Executive secured legacy funding to complete it.
Mr. Agbeve added that the equipment supplied by World Vision Ghana met high standards, with no compromise on quality.
The items presented to the facility include an adult weighing scale with height measurement, two hanging or salter weighing scales, two examination couches with adjustable headrests, a four-fold screen with castors, a delivery bed, a delivery set, a resuscitation table, a foetal Doppler, an electric steam steriliser with stand and a sterilising drum.
Other supplies include two infusion stands, three hospital beds with mattresses, four office tables, eight office chairs, three benches and 24 bedsheets.
