A High Court in Accra has restrained the traditional authorities of Worawora from holding this year's Akwantutenten festival, which was due to run from 24 October to 1 November 2026 in the Oti Region.

The order was granted on 19 October 2026 by Justice Emmanuel Kofi Diaba of the High Court (General Jurisdiction 5), in Suit No. GJ/1119/2026. It restrains the defendants, their agents and assigns from convening, organizing and advertising the festival.

The plaintiffs are Abusuapanin Osei Kwame of Ejisu Besease in the Ashanti Region, Obaapanin Ama Pokua Nyarko, and Nana Ama Anowaa Nyarko Boah, both of Baatsona Central, Spintex Road, Accra.

The defendants are Mr. Kwapong, who goes by the title Nana Sarfro Baah III, and Maame Abena Sarfoah Awerewa, the Worawora Hemaa

The court said it acted after reading the affidavit of Nana Ama Anowaa Nyarko Boah, filed on 12 October 2026 on behalf of the plaintiffs in support of a motion on notice for an interlocutory injunction under Order 25 of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, C.I. 47. It also heard Selorm Dey Esq., counsel for the plaintiffs.

In a letter dated 19 October to the Registrar of the High Court Complex, Dey Legal Consult, the plaintiffs' solicitors, asked for the order to be issued so the defendants could be served quickly and comply in full.

The application had been filed on 12 October and was heard and granted on 19 October, five days before the festival's scheduled opening.

The Akwantutenten is a major annual event for the people of Worawora, drawing sons and daughters of the town home and bringing visitors, and its suspension is likely to affect preparations already under way.
