The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the North Dayi District has engaged women in Anfoega to assess the impact of a programme designed to empower them to resist corruption and demand accountability from public institutions.

The engagement, held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, brought together women from various occupational groups, including hairdressers, tailors, market traders, garment workers, shop owners and other business operators.

North Dayi District Director of the NCCE, Simon Mawuko, said the initiative, which began last year, was aimed at strengthening the rule of law by equipping women with knowledge of their rights and the appropriate channels for reporting corruption and injustice.

He said feedback gathered from participants indicated that some women had put their training into practice by refusing to pay bribes, demanding receipts for payments and pursuing their legal rights through the courts.

Mr. Mawuko explained that the latest engagement was organised to evaluate how participants had applied the knowledge acquired during previous training sessions and encourage them to share the information with other women in their communities.

He also disclosed that a follow-up committee would engage the police over a complaint raised by one of the participants, who expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of a case she had reported. The committee is expected to explore ways of resolving the matter.

The programme is sponsored by the German development agency GIZ, in partnership with the European Union and the Ministry of Finance, with the SEC responsible for its implementation.

Mr. Mawuko expressed optimism that the initiative would strengthen women's involvement in the fight against corruption and help build a fairer society free from corruption and injustice.
