“Manyoro says: Hunter works for meat today, trap works for meat tomorrow. Kiyosaki says: Don’t chase money, make money chase you. Ghana says: Job is good, but asset is better.” – Abundant Robert K. AWOLUGUTU
In Manyoro, Apewe, a young hunter, has two mentors: His own father {Poor Dad}, a teacher who says: “Go to school, get government job, be safe, money is evil.” And his uncle {Rich Dad} – school drop-out, entrepreneur, who says: “Learn how money works, buy cow that gives milk, don’t work for money.”
Apewe is utterly confused! Poor Dad has degree but is always broke, borrows to sustain himself. Rich Dad has no degree, but owns shops, helps many.
Kiyosaki had same problem. His Poor Dad -PhD, Stanford, teacher – was broke most of the time. In contrast, his Rich Dad, a college drop-out, is a millionaire.
Kiyosaki famously said: “The poor and the middle-class work for money. The rich have money work for them.”
The situation in Ghana is no different Parents advise their children: “Go to school, get a good education, obtain government job, retire with pension.” But no jobs, salary is small, pension is nothing to write home about. Manyoro and for that matter Ghana must unlearn – need Rich Dad thinking.
George Clason taught us how to build wealth – keep 10 percent of every income earned. Kiyosaki teaches us what to do with the 10 percent savings – make it work! Money must have children!
WHY MANYORO NEEDS KIYOSAKI NOW – Job Mentality Is Poverty Mentality
University graduates outstrip jobs. 100,000 graduates – 5,000 jobs. Poor Dad advice fails completely. Now anachronistic!
Manyoro proverb says: “When trap is set, hunter sleeps but meat comes.”
Schools teach you to work for money, not how money works. Kiyosaki calls this financial illiteracy. Unacceptable in today’s world.
Ghana youth miseducated. They want salary, not assets. They want to feel safe, not free. They are in the rat race! Fear of trying anything new, so remain poor. They have scarcity mentality. Fear of losing money – so lose always!
Youth must learn how money works. Learn the rules of money. Let money work for you while you sleep. Become rich. Help people, family, friends, Manyoro and Ghana.
DECODING KIYOSAKI – 6 Rich Dad Lessons Simplified for Ghana
- LESSON 1 – The Rich Don’t Work For Money {They Make Money Work Like Slave!}
Poor Dad: Work hard for salary. Rich Dad: Salary is a trap! It is whittled away by taxes and inflation. Pension not reliable – not sustainable.
In Manyoro, a hunter who hunts daily eats daily. A hunter who owns 10 traps eats even in sickness.
In Ghana, a teacher can work 30 years and retire broke. A businessman can travel while his shop continues to generate money for him. Teacher is in the rat race! No freedom.
Money works hard for businessman! Financial freedom. Helps many people in need.
ACTION: Ask: Am I working for money or is money working for me? Get asset even if small. Asset is anything which puts money in your pocket. A hen that lays eggs is an asset. A cow that gives milk is asset.
- LESSON 2 – Why Teach Financial Literacy? {Learn Language of Money}
Manyoro youth need financial literacy. Kiyosaki notes: It’s not how much you make, but how much you keep, and how hard it works. It should work for generations.
Clason taught us to save 10% of our income. Kiyosaki wants us to understand assets and liabilities. An asset puts money in your pocket. A liability takes money out of your pocket. When liabilities exceed assets, you become poor. Acquire assets to become rich.
In Manyoro, asset puts meat in pot, liability takes meat from pot.
In Manyoro, the youth buy liabilities and call them assets. For example: Buy a car on loan. It takes money out of your pocket as you buy fuel. When you buy a big house {liability} to impress instead of rented property {asset} that brings money.
ACTION: List -What puts money in my pocket? What takes money out of my pocket? Buy more of what puts money in your pocket {assets}. Reduce or eliminate what takes money out of your pocket {liabilities}.
- LESSON 3 -Mind Your Own Business {Build Your Asset Column}.
Poor Dad: Mind your job. It may not make you rich but it will help you get by. Rich Dad says: Mind your business, let it thrive and take care of you.
Manyoro: Don’t only labour to enrich chief, have your own farm! Farm is asset.
Instead of working for government or NGO, build your poultry, writing, trading by night. I am a retired prison officer by profession but a writer by business. My articles work while I sleep.
ACTION: What is your side business? Start one, even small.
- LESSON 4 – The History of Taxes and Power of Corporations {Learn Rules}
According to Kiyosaki, the rich know the tax laws that the poor don’t. They use that knowledge to their advantage.
In Ghana, people do business but do not know the laws or rules of business. Ignorance is expensive.
The youth need to study the business environment, know the dynamics of demand and supply. They should learn the rules of money-making -MoMo, susu, cooperatives, business registration among others.
ACTION: Learn one money rule this month – how to register a business, the techniques for managing business, how tax works for small business.
- LESSON 5 – The Rich Invent Money {Opportunity Is in Mind}
In the words of Kiyosaki, “Great opportunities are not seen with your eyes. They are seen with your mind.” Buddha taught: Mind is everything. A trained mind sees business where others see problem.
I once took my little daughter to the back of my official quarters. I told her: “We are standing on money!” “I haven’t seen any money, Dad,” she said.
I got a backyard garden prepared. We planted ayoyo, lettuce, cabbage, carrots etc. Soon, they got money for school. We consumed the rest.
Mind saw opportunity -business to make money.
In Manyoro, the wise see farm, others see bush. Some people see waste, others see compost manure.
In Ghana, the youth see no jobs, struggle daily. Rich Dad sees opportunities: People need food, transport, knowledge, books, and provide. Money gravitates towards ideas that solve problems.
ACTION: What problems in Manyoro or Navrongo can you solve? That is money!
- LESSON 6 -Work to Learn, Don’t Work For Money {Skills Pay}
You need skills to start and run a business. Learn to know the intricacies associated with sales, marketing, accounting, communication, and choose a business model.
Like a sharp cutlass cuts more, so sharp skills earn more.
In Ghana, youth reject small job because pay is peanuts. But job teaches skill for big business.
Becoming a writer required writing skills. This I developed over time. Now I have over 200 articles to touch lives.
ACTION: What skill will you work to learn, not just pay?
ASSET vs LIABILITY – The Manyoro Goat Test
Asset: Goat that gives milk/kids, hen that lays eggs, shop that brings income, article that brings royalty and land that appreciates in value.
Liability: Buy car on loan – fuelling the car takes money out of your pocket. Big wedding, big funeral that drain pocket.
Kiyosaki says, “the poor buy liabilities and think they are assets. The rich buy assets.”
In Ghana, the show-off culture is pervasive – liability parade.
ACTION: Before buying, ask: Will this put money in my pocket or take?
FEAR OF LOSING – Why Ghana Youth Don’t Try
Kiyosaki says winners are not afraid of losing. Losers are afraid, don’t try and so avoid success too.
In Manyoro, fear holds a hunter back: What if I miss? What if a lion eats me up? He never shoots. No meat.
In Ghana the fear of failure has stopped people from starting their own businesses. They are safe but stay poor.
Clason says: Better little caution than great regret. Kiyosaki says too much caution also leads to regret.
Here is what to do: Learn, start small, fail small, and learn big. Dr. Joyce Brothers said: “The person interested success has to learn to view failure as a healthy, inevitable part of the process of getting to the top.”
ACTION: What small risk will you take this month? The person who avoids risk also avoids success.
COMMON MISTAKED GHANAIANS MAKE {Kiyosaki Diagnosis}
- Those who work for money only – have no assets.
- They call liabilities assets – car on loan, big house to show off!
- Want safe job, not financial education, not financial freedom
- Fear failure, so never start.
- It is Poor Dad language to say: “I can’t afford” instead of “How can I afford?”
CONCLUSION: Manyoro Rich Dad Challenge
Challenge: 30 Days Rich Dad Thinking. Get financial education – Learn one financial word daily, list assets and liabilities. Start building assets. Start small.
Call-to-Action: Work with purpose, not just money.
Let money work for you. Financial independence means freedom to travel, provide for family, and help others.
Final Quote: Kiyosaki wrote: “The poor work for money. The rich have money work for them.” Abundant Robert AWOLUGUTU says: “Work for money, you tired. Money work for you, you free. Hunter works for meat today, trap works for meat tomorrow.”
