Education GETFund, private-sector partners donate educational materials to four Central Region Schools
TUE, 20 OCT 2026

The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), through its Education Financing and Partnership Initiative (EFPI), has donated textbooks and exercise books to four senior high schools in the Central Region to support teaching and learning.

The donation, made possible through contributions from Sec-Print Ghana Limited, Jay-Kay Industries and Investments Limited, and Aki-Ola Publications Company Limited, is aimed at improving students’ access to essential learning materials and strengthening efforts to provide quality education.

The beneficiary schools are Kobina Ansah Senior High Technical School, Abeadze State College, John Evans Atta Mills Senior High School and Ekumfi Methodist Senior High School.

The intervention forms part of GETFund’s broader efforts to mobilise private-sector support to complement government funding for education, particularly in areas where resource constraints continue to affect teaching and learning.

Under the Education Financing and Partnership Initiative, GETFund works to bring together corporate organisations, development partners and other stakeholders to channel additional resources towards pressing educational needs.

The latest donation demonstrates how collaboration between public institutions and private organisations can help address some of the resource challenges confronting schools.

At Kobina Ansah Senior High Technical School, the materials were received on behalf of the school administration by the Assistant Head of Administration, Ebenezer Yankson. Representatives of the Member of Parliament, traditional authorities, teachers and students were also present.

Michael Moore, Personal Assistant to the Member of Parliament for the area, Dr Ebenezer Prince Arhin, expressed appreciation for the support and assured the donors that the materials would be put to effective use.

Abeadze State College also received educational materials to support its students. The donation was received by the Assistant Headmaster, John Gyabaah, on behalf of the Headmistress, Juliana Ayimada.

The engagement provided an opportunity to highlight GETFund’s role in supporting educational development and the importance of ensuring that students have access to resources that enhance their academic work. The school also identified the need for a dining hall and additional accommodation for teachers as areas requiring further attention.

At John Evans Atta Mills Senior High School in Otuam, the donation was welcomed by school authorities and representatives of the constituency. The Member of Parliament for Ekumfi, Dr Ekow Othniel Kwainoe, expressed gratitude to GETFund and the contributing companies for supporting the educational needs of students.

He also encouraged the students to strive for academic excellence and make the most of the opportunities available to them.

School authorities indicated that, alongside the need for learning materials, the institution requires additional resources, including transportation, information technology equipment and science laboratory supplies, to further improve teaching and learning.

The requests highlight the broader infrastructure and resource needs that continue to confront some schools, even as interventions such as the donation provide immediate assistance.

The donated textbooks and exercise books are expected to support classroom activities and independent study, giving students more opportunities to read, practise and deepen their understanding of subjects beyond classroom instruction.

The contributions from Sec-Print Ghana Limited, Jay-Kay Industries and Investments Limited, and Aki-Ola Publications Company Limited underscore the role private-sector organisations can play in supporting educational development through targeted interventions.

GETFund was established to provide sustainable financing for education in Ghana, including support for infrastructure, scholarships, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

However, rising enrolment and competing demands on education financing continue to place pressure on available resources, making partnerships with the private sector an important complement to public investment.

Through EFPI, GETFund seeks to coordinate such contributions and direct support towards identified needs within the education sector.

The donation to the four Central Region schools reinforces the importance of shared responsibility in education financing, with public institutions, corporate organisations, communities and other stakeholders contributing to the development of learners.

While the materials provide immediate support to the beneficiary schools, the expressed needs for additional facilities and equipment point to the importance of sustained collaboration to create more conducive learning environments.

GETFund’s engagement with the schools is expected to strengthen awareness of the initiative and encourage more corporate organisations and development partners to support efforts to improve educational outcomes across the country.
