The New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Youth Wing has announced plans to organise a protest against the John Dramani Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government over alleged corruption and what it describes as the failure to deliver on campaign promises.
The demonstration, dubbed the “Yegyeyɛ Sika Demo,” is expected to focus on demands for accountability, job creation and economic relief for Ghanaians.
However, the date and venue for the “Yegyeyɛ Sika Demo” have not yet been announced.
In a statement posted on Facebook, NPP National Youth Organiser Abanga Yakubu Fuseini said the protest would demand, among other things, that Sports Minister Kofi Adams and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa refund monies they allegedly have not properly accounted for.
The youth wing has also questioned the government's cocoa producer price, arguing that the GH¢2,600 per bag being offered to farmers, instead of GH¢3,100, is unfair to cocoa producers.
Beyond the concerns over alleged financial impropriety and cocoa pricing, the group has criticised the government over what it considers a failure to implement the proposed 24-hour economy policy.
The NPP youth wing says the planned demonstration is intended to press the government to account for its actions and address concerns affecting livelihoods and economic opportunities.
