The Ghana High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa, has admitted clerical errors in the records of 15 Ghanaians evacuated from the country, following concerns raised over discrepancies in their dates of birth and the payment of reintegration and transportation allowances.
In a press statement dated October 19, 2026, the Commission explained that the errors occurred during the transcription of passport details by officials, resulting in passport expiry dates being mistakenly recorded as dates of birth.
The High Commission said the discrepancies affected only 15 of the 1,964 Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa and accepted responsibility for the errors.
“The High Commission takes responsibility for the minor clerical errors which affect only 15 individuals out of the 1,964 Ghanaians evacuated,” the statement said.
It stressed that the errors did not invalidate the identities of the individuals involved, their participation in the evacuation exercise or their receipt of the approved reintegration and transportation allowances.
According to the Commission, all evacuees underwent the necessary identification, data-processing and departure formalities before leaving South Africa.
The High Commission subsequently provided corrected details for the 15 individuals to facilitate updates to the records and ensure accurate public information.
It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, urging journalists and the public to verify apparent discrepancies with the appropriate official sources.
The statement followed a data analysis that questioned aspects of the government’s evacuation exercise and the payments made to some of the evacuees.
The Commission maintained that it remained proud of the efforts made to secure the safe return of Ghanaians from South Africa and pledged to provide further clarification where necessary.
