The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed Regional Directors of Education to ensure that capitation grants for the first term of the 2026/2027 academic year are disbursed to basic schools by Friday, October 30.
The directive follows the transfer of the funds to the accounts of the various District Education Directorates for onward disbursement to the schools.
In a letter dated October 16, and signed by Munawaru Issahaque, Deputy Director-General in charge of Quality and Assurance, on behalf of the Director-General, GES said the deadline is intended to ensure that heads of basic schools could operate without disruptions.
“Regional Directors are therefore by this letter, requested to ensure that the funds are transferred to the schools on or before Friday, 30th October, 2026, to enable Heads of Basic Schools operate seamlessly,” the statement read in part.
The Service also announced that a team from its headquarters would visit the regions in the first week of November 2026 to monitor the disbursement process.
It has therefore urged regional authorities to ensure that the funds reach the schools without further delay.
GES further clarified that the transfers to the district accounts includes the sports and culture component for district offices.
However, the regional sports and culture allocations had been transferred separately to the designated accounts of the respective regional offices.
The capitation grant supports the operations of public basic schools and is intended to help them meet essential school-related expenses.
