National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant for Gomoa West Constituency, Captaine Blessed Godsbrain Smart, has cut the sod for the construction of a new teachers’ quarters at Gomoa Wassa as part of efforts to improve educational infrastructure in the constituency.

The project, which is being undertaken by Team Captaine Smart, is the 23rd teachers’ quarters initiative being implemented in various towns and communities across the Gomoa West Constituency.

The sod-cutting ceremony, held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, was attended by traditional leaders, community members and other stakeholders, including the former Vice-President of the National House of Chiefs and Omanhene of the Abeadze Dominase Traditional Area, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi; President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs and Omanhene of Breman Asikuma, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VII; Omanhene of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Area, Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II; and Gomoa Tarkwahene, Daasebre Atta Kwakwa Egyir Opusu VII.

Speaking at the ceremony, Captaine Smart said the initiative was intended to go beyond the construction of physical structures, explaining that decent accommodation for teachers was essential to improving teacher retention and the teacher-to-pupil ratio in the constituency.

"It is about attracting and retaining dedicated educators, strengthening teaching and learning, and giving every child—regardless of where they live—a fair opportunity to receive quality education," Smart emphasised.

He said the continued implementation of the teachers’ quarters projects reflected his commitment to addressing the development needs of residents before seeking political power.

Captaine Smart expressed appreciation to Nananom, community leaders and residents of Gomoa Wassa for their support, unity and commitment to the development of the community.

"Together, we are building stronger communities and a brighter future for Gomoa West," Captaine Smart assured them, promising not to take their steadfast support and trust in him for granted.

He disclosed that materials required for the construction, including iron rods, roofing sheets, cement, blocks, trips of sand and stones, paint, tiles and wood for the roofing, were ready for deployment.

Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi commended Captaine Smart for the infrastructure projects being undertaken across the constituency, saying he was impressed by the scale of the initiatives.

He prayed for God's and the ancestors' blessings upon Captaine Smart's efforts and asked for divine direction in his endeavours.

Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II also expressed appreciation to Captaine Smart for what he described as his commitment to the holistic development of the Gomoa West Constituency.

"I know and believe Nananom would pray for you. We thank you for what you have done and continue to do to improve the lot of Gomoa inhabitants," he stated.
