Two people are feared dead and 12 others reportedly injured, some critically, following a road accident involving an articulated truck carrying cement, a Toyota Voxy and several motorbikes on the Walewale Road on Sunday, October 18.
The crash reportedly occurred when the truck, travelling from Walewale, collided with the Toyota Voxy, which was heading from Bolgatanga to Tamale. The truck also reportedly struck electricity poles during the incident.
Several motorbike riders were caught up in the collision, with some reportedly crushed in the crash.
The deceased are said to include a female student and a man who was riding a motorbike at the time of the accident.
The injured were transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital and other health facilities for treatment. Reports indicate that 12 victims are in critical condition at the emergency ward.
Confirming the incident to Citi News, the Municipal Chief Executive for West Mamprusi, Mohammed Jabaah, said two people had died and others sustained injuries. However, he attributed the crash to the Toyota Voxy losing control.
“There was a collision between the articulated truck, which was carrying POP cement, and the Toyota Voxy. The Voxy lost control, resulting in the accident, involving several vehicles. Two people died and eight were injured,” he said.
While initial reports put the number of injured persons at 12, Mr Jabaah cited eight in his account of the incident.
