When a man who has led millions in prayer breaks down in tears before a live audience, the least a nation owes him is attention. On 17 October 2026, Pastor Elvis Agyemang, leader of Grace Mountain Ministry and convener of Alpha Hour, did that during one of his midnight sessions. He spoke about attacks on his ministry, and some of them, he says, come from senior men of the cloth. I watched the live prayer myself. What I saw was a shepherd carrying a weight that few people see.
What he said
According to GhanaWeb's report, Pastor Elvis described how a member of his church was allegedly hired by some individuals to go around ruining his reputation. That person later suffered a severe accident that left his leg broken. Pastor Elvis said he did not walk away from him. When the man could no longer function, Pastor Elvis took responsibility for his child, sponsored the child's education, and even took the child abroad to study.
The man he helped was allegedly paid to speak against him, and he still looked after that man's family. That is not the behaviour of the villain his critics try to paint.
He then gave a warning to those who let themselves be used as tools against servants of God. Anyone who has become a vessel of the enemy, he said, may not like the reward that follows. He added that too many Christians are being used this way and that many pastors have given up.
The five-year prophecy of doom
The most painful part of his account concerns fellow clergy. Pastor Elvis said some senior pastors met and concluded that he would not last five years in ministry. He says he was recently shown a recording in which some well-known pastors discussed him and agreed he should simply be left alone because he would not survive that long.
His question was simple and heartbreaking: what have I done to you? He said he does not know some of these people and has never spoken to them. He asked whether he should stop the work of God because of them.
He also described a young man who admired him and wanted to become a pastor in his own denomination. The young man was reportedly turned down at an interview because he had once taken a photograph with Pastor Elvis. If that is true, hatred has reached the point where a photo is treated as a crime.
This did not start yesterday
Alpha Hour began on 8 February 2022. Within a short time it became one of the most watched live streams in Ghana. In 2022 it reportedly drew more than 53,000 concurrent viewers on Facebook and about 16,000 on YouTube. Success on that scale brings admirers, and it also brings enemies.
When critics questioned the numbers, Pastor Elvis answered with composure. He said that if the numbers were faked, technical people would long ago have produced evidence. He said the work is about the destinies of those who pray, not about the critics.
In January 2023, after backlash over a viral picture of offering money being counted, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare of Perez Chapel International publicly encouraged him. He said the attacks came because Alpha Hour had upset the devil's plans, and that it is not wrong for a ministry to receive funds to pay for a huge programme.
Earlier this year, a woman was reportedly caught on CCTV trying to set Grace Mountain Ministry's auditorium on fire. Pastor Elvis said it was stopped only because someone monitoring the cameras noticed something unusual and alerted security. He also told Alpha Hour viewers about a female church worker who tried to set him up with a false claim. He said he was protected because he never answered her anonymous messages. Whether or not one believes every detail, the arson attempt was reported and the footage circulated. This man has been a target for a long time.
Not just a prayer leader
Those who attack him rarely mention what he builds. Reports from GhanaWeb and YEN describe school buildings constructed for deprived communities. One of them is a school block with water provided for the Manhean community. A man who spends ministry resources on classrooms and clean water is not a fraud chasing fame.
Even fellow clergy are speaking up
Rev. Abraham Lamptey of Believers House of Worship publicly defended him on 16 October 2026. He said the past five years had been full of attacks by other senior pastors, and that he had watched Pastor Elvis cry. He pointed out that Pastor Elvis has already done a great deal in the time his critics gave him. When a fellow minister says this, it is not just fan loyalty. It is a sign that something is wrong in how parts of the church treat its own.
The wider lesson
Pastor Elvis spoke of ordinary people who sit on social media to insult him and his ministry. He also spoke of those who wish to wake one day and hear of a fight between him and his wife, and of pastors' children and families who suffer because of what their fathers do for God. This is the cost of public ministry in the age of social media. Pastors' wives, children and loved ones are attacked because the pastor cannot be reached directly. Ghanaians should be ashamed of that.
The church is meant to be a family. When senior pastors treat a younger one as a threat to be managed, what they show is insecurity. Ministry does not run on a clock. It has no five-year limit, and no council of men can set an expiry date on a calling.
My position
I am an Alpharian, and I do not hide it. I am not asking anyone to stop thinking critically. Leaders should answer for how they handle money, doctrine and conduct, and Pastor Elvis himself has said his work should be open to scrutiny. But there is a difference between honest accountability and a campaign to destroy a man. Honest accountability names its concerns openly, in public and to his face. A secret meeting about when someone will fail is not accountability. It is a plot.
If the pastors he is talking about believe he has done wrong, let them say so openly, name their concerns and meet with him. If not, they should stop whispering. Ghana's church cannot afford a culture where success is punished and tears are mocked.
Pastor Elvis, many of us are standing with you. Keep praying, keep building, and keep serving. The God who has kept you this far has not forgotten you.

Research notes
- The core events (the hired church member, the broken leg, the child's education abroad, the five-year meeting and the recording, and the mentee rejected over a photo) are all reported by GhanaWeb on 17 October 2026.
- Rev. Abraham Lamptey's defence was reported on 16 October 2026. The report's headline uses the phrase "Murderers with Bibles", which I left out of the article because it is a harsh label that could draw attention away from your argument.
- Archbishop Agyinasare's encouragement dates from the January 2023 end-of-year programme controversy.
- Alpha Hour began on 8 February 2022.
- The attendance figures come from a 2022 Modern Ghana report, so I framed them as past numbers.
