The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged Parliament to summon the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) over alleged visa fraud associated with travel arrangements for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The party is also calling for a public inquiry into the allegations, the release of documents covering the arrangements and a clear timeline for investigations.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, October 15, 2026, the NPP Director of Communications, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, said the Parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee should investigate the matter to determine what occurred and establish responsibility.

“Parliament must step in and summon their member who happens to be the Minister for Sports and Recreation, summon the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority to answer questions on the floor of the House and to the Youth and Sports Committee so that we will have clarity,” he stated.

Mr Aboagye said a parliamentary inquiry would help assure Ghana's international partners that the alleged fraudulent activities were not authorised by the state and that anyone found culpable would be held accountable.

He also called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide information on its engagements with the United States and Canadian embassies and explain steps being taken to protect Ghanaian travellers from any possible repercussions.

The NPP further wants all documents relating to the arrangements made public, including the memorandum of understanding between the National Sports Authority and Tribe Culture FEST, the supplementary agreement, the agreement between the GTA and the company, lists submitted to the two embassies and a May 28, 2026 letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On individuals who allegedly paid money to the GTA or the National Sports Authority for visa and travel assistance, Mr Aboagye urged the government to protect them and ensure that any recovered funds are returned.

“Applicants who paid money to the Tourism Authority or to the National Sports Authority must be protected by the state. Many of them were ordinary Ghanaians who trusted the name of a public institution. They should be invited to come forward without fear and any money recovered returned to them,” he said.

He further demanded a definite timeframe for the investigations and the publication of a report once the process is concluded.

According to him, investigations that drag on without clear outcomes could deepen suspicions that efforts are being made to conceal the truth.

The NPP's demands come amid allegations that more than US$600,000 was collected from individuals seeking assistance with visa applications and travel arrangements for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
