The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has announced new reopening dates for the 2026/2027 academic year, with fresh students expected to report on Thursday, October 15, and continuing students on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
Lectures for the academic year are scheduled to begin on Monday, October 19.
The revised dates were communicated in a notice issued by the Office of the Registrar on Wednesday, October 14, following an emergency meeting of the university's Executive Committee.
The notice, signed by Deputy Registrar in charge of General Administration, E. T. Otieku, on behalf of the Registrar, asked students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to take note of the updated arrangements.
KNUST's latest announcement follows its earlier decision to postpone reopening, which had initially been scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, due to the ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
In a press release issued on Friday, October 9, the university explained that the indefinite postponement was necessary because the industrial action was affecting the effective operation and administration of the institution.
The University of Ghana also postponed its reopening, which had been scheduled for Monday, October 12, GBC reported.
GAUA declared its strike on August 10, 2026, with the industrial action affecting the academic calendar and administrative operations at public universities.
