The National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has questioned the impartiality of newly appointed Electoral Commission (EC) Deputy Chairperson Emelia Affi Agbenyo over her alleged involvement in the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s political activities.
President John Dramani Mahama swore in Ms Agbenyo and Dr Joseph Kwaku Asamoah as Deputy Chairpersons of the EC on Monday, October 12.
Their appointments followed the resignation of Dr Bossman Asare and the retirement of Samuel Tettey.
The appointments have, however, attracted criticism from the NPP, which alleges that Ms Agbenyo actively participated in the NDC’s politics and played a role in the party’s 2024 election campaign.
The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has defended the appointments, arguing that they were intended to address what the government considers a partisan imbalance at the commission.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, October 14, Miracles Aboagye rejected the suggestion that the NPP had identifiable party members serving on the EC.
He said the concern is not simply about whether an individual could influence an election outcome but whether the person could impartially handle disputes between the two major political parties during the electoral process.
“Not a single commissioner at the Electoral Commission has so much evidence in terms of their bias and partisanship like Affi,” he alleged.
Miracles Aboagye also criticised NDC supporters who, he said, had previously called for action against perceived partisan appointments when the NPP was in government but are now defending the current appointments.
He stressed that the issue is about public confidence in the EC’s ability to discharge its duties fairly, particularly when disputes arise between the two main political parties.

Your useless and most corrupt political party in the world branded Charlotte Osei an NPP member and she was sacked. Despite all the crimes Jean Mensa committed, she is still there, so what is your problem? Are you scared of going to prison so you want elections to be rigged to prevent that? If that is your wish, then it's not going to happen.
