The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has announced new reopening dates for the 2026/2027 academic year following an earlier postponement.
Freshmen are expected to report to the university on Thursday, October 15, while continuing students are scheduled to return on Saturday, October 17.
Lectures for the academic year will begin on Monday, October 19, according to a notice issued by the Office of the Registrar on Wednesday, October 14.
“All students, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders are kindly advised to take note of the revised arrangements accordingly,” the notice stated.
The revised schedule follows an earlier decision by the university to postpone reopening indefinitely due to the ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), which management said had affected the institution’s effective operations and administration.
The university had initially scheduled October 13 for the reopening of the 2026/2027 academic year but suspended the arrangements pending further notice.
The latest announcement was issued after an emergency Executive Committee meeting held on Wednesday, October 14.
The notice, signed by Deputy Registrar E. T. Otieku for the Registrar, also called on students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to take note of the revised arrangements.
