An aspirant for the Volta Regional Deputy Secretary position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Lawer Egbenya, has described the regional secretariat as the “engine room” of the party, stressing the need for an experienced politician to manage its affairs.
Dr Egbenya, who is the Constituency Secretary for South Tongu, said his political and administrative experience placed him ahead of the other aspirants for the position.
He argued that the Volta Region, which he described as the “World Bank of the NDC,” required a Deputy Regional Secretary capable of coordinating the activities of all 18 constituencies effectively.
According to him, his experience at the constituency level has given him an in-depth understanding of the party's structures, operations and challenges.
He pointed to the performance of the South Tongu Constituency in the last general elections, where the constituency recorded the highest percentage of votes for the NDC and President John Dramani Mahama among constituencies nationwide.
Dr Egbenya attributed the achievement partly to his role as the constituency's campaign coordinator.
He filed his nomination at the NDC's Regional Office in Ho on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, and said he would introduce modern digital tools to improve the party's operations if elected.
He identified digitalisation as one of the key innovations he intended to bring to the regional secretariat, arguing that technology could enhance coordination and the management of party activities.
Dr Egbenya expressed confidence that delegates, particularly constituency executives with whom he has worked over the years, would support his candidature when they go to the polls on November 14.
He said his ability to coordinate party structures, knowledge of digitalisation and capacity to work empathetically with members at different levels made him suitable for the position.
The aspirant further argued that because much of the party's work is carried out at the constituency level, his experience as a constituency secretary had provided him with first-hand knowledge of the demands of the secretariat.
He said he was therefore well-positioned to help improve the efficiency of the regional office and support the party's structures across the region.
Dr Egbenya maintained that his political experience, administrative skills and understanding of the NDC's organisational machinery would enable him to serve effectively as Deputy Volta Regional Secretary if elected.
