The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring investor confidence and revitalising Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector through sustained investor engagement and ongoing legal and fiscal reforms.
He said the measures were to create a more competitive, predictable and business-friendly environment for investment while safeguarding the country’s national interests.
Dr Jinapor made the remarks at the opening ceremony of African Energy Week on Tuesday in Cape Town, South Africa.
He said the reforms were yielding encouraging results, including significant investment commitments estimated at US$3.5 billion to support the expansion of operations and the drilling of new wells.
The Minister also pointed to positive developments in crude oil production, describing the progress as an indication of renewed confidence in Ghana’s petroleum industry.
He said the government was determined to sustain the momentum by attracting further investment, strengthening local participation and ensuring that the country derived greater value from its natural resources.
Dr Jinapor stressed the need to deepen domestic value addition by refining more of Ghana’s crude oil locally to support industrial growth, create employment opportunities and enhance the country’s energy security.
He said the government’s approach was to ensure that investment in the petroleum sector translated into tangible benefits for the economy and the Ghanaian people.
The Minister expressed his appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for his personal commitment to providing the energy sector with the necessary attention, strategic direction and support to drive investment, economic growth and national development.
Dr Jinapor reiterated that the government’s objective was to continuously attract investment, protect Ghanaian interests and transform the country’s natural resources into lasting national value and shared prosperity.
He emphasised that the focus would remain on building a competitive petroleum sector that supports local industry, expands economic opportunities and strengthens Ghana’s long-term energy security.
