The Ghana Health Service, through its Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), will conduct a Periodic Intensification of Routine Immunization (PIRI) exercise focused on Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in the Ho Municipality from October 19 to 23, 2026.
The exercise forms part of efforts to increase HPV vaccination coverage and protect eligible girls against cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases.
In a letter dated October 13, 2026, and signed by the Municipal Director of Health Service, Ms Perfect Titiati, the Directorate said the exercise would target girls aged 9 to 14 years across the municipality.
The first round of the vaccination exercise will run from Monday, October 19, to Friday, October 23, 2026.
As part of the implementation, trained health personnel will visit schools and other public places to administer the vaccine to eligible girls within the target age group.
Health teams will also be stationed at health centres to vaccinate girls who are out of school, with the Directorate stressing that the exercise is intended to ensure that no eligible girl is left behind.
The Health Directorate said the HPV vaccine is safe and will be provided free of charge. It will be administered as an injection, with one dose providing maximum protection against cervical cancer.
Girls who receive the vaccine will be issued immunisation cards as proof of vaccination.
The Directorate has therefore urged parents and guardians to take advantage of the exercise and ensure that girls aged 9 to 14 years receive the HPV vaccine.
Ms Titiati also appealed to stakeholders in the municipality to help disseminate information about the exercise to the public to ensure a successful vaccination campaign.
She expressed confidence in the continued cooperation and support of stakeholders in the municipality.
