On 5th October 2026, a delegation from United Service To Africa (USTA), led by the Wenchi SDA Church, paid a courtesy call on Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III, Paramount Chief of the Wenchi Traditional Area and President of the Wenchi Traditional Council, at his palace in Wenchi in the Bono Region.
The courtesy visit marked the beginning of what promises to be a transformative healthcare partnership aimed at bringing quality, accessible, and life-changing medical services closer to the people of Wenchi and surrounding communities.
The distinguished delegation included Dr. (Med) Kwame Boateng Agyemang, Internal Medicine Specialist and Assistant Professor at Loma Linda University and Medical Center, California, USA; Pastor Dr. Edward Nyarko, President of the Bono, Bono East up to Northern Ghana SDA Conference; Pastor Maxwell Obour Boateng, President of the Mid-West SDA Conference, Ghana; Elder Michael Danso; Pastor Samuel Addai, Wenchi East SDA Pastor; Elder Kwadwo Fari; Elder Williams Damoah; Mr. Kwame Kyeremeh; and Dr. (Pharm) Adjei Boadu of Ghana Adventist Health Services.
One of the most exciting outcomes of the engagement is the commitment that, beginning in 2027, USTA, in collaboration with the Osagyefo Ampem Foundation, will organize an annual free surgical outreach programme for the people of Wenchi.
The outreach is expected to provide essential procedures at zero cost to beneficiaries, including cataract surgeries, Hernia repairs, Hydrocele repairs, Cleft palate repairs, Fistula correction, and other essential surgical procedures.
Wenchi Methodist Hospital will support the initiative and play a critical role in providing the necessary facilities and post-operative care.
This partnership represents more than a medical intervention—it is a commitment to restoring hope, improving quality of life, and ensuring that financial limitations do not prevent people from accessing essential surgical care.
The meeting also brought another major development for the future of healthcare in the Wenchi Traditional Area.
The Hart Foundation, under the leadership of Dr. Hart, immediate past Chancellor of Loma Linda University and Medical Center, through the SDA Church, is set to construct an ultra-modern hospital in Wenchi to serve the health needs of the people of Wenchi and communities beyond.
With funding for the project already available, the vision is steadily moving from an aspiration to a tangible reality.
Recognizing the importance of appropriate land and location for such a major healthcare facility, Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III has requested that the leadership of the SDA Church liaise closely with the Wenchi Traditional Council in identifying and selecting a suitable location for the project.
The proposed hospital has the potential to become a major healthcare landmark for Wenchi and the wider Bono Region, creating opportunities for improved healthcare delivery, specialized medical services and stronger partnerships between traditional leadership, faith-based organizations and healthcare institutions.
Following the courtesy call at the palace, the USTA delegation proceeded to the Wenchi Methodist Hospital for a site visit.
The team assessed the hospital’s existing facilities and infrastructure to determine how best they could support the planned free surgical outreach and, importantly, how USTA could augment the hospital’s capacity to provide quality post-operative care to patients who will benefit from the programme.
The visit underscored the importance of collaboration. By bringing together traditional leadership, the SDA Church, USTA, the Osagyefo Ampem Foundation and Wenchi Methodist Hospital, the initiative seeks to create a sustainable healthcare model that places the wellbeing of the people at its centre.
What began with a courtesy call has opened the door to a much bigger vision—a vision of accessible healthcare, free life-changing surgeries, modern medical infrastructure and stronger institutional partnerships for the people of Wenchi and beyond.
Under the leadership and support of Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III, the Wenchi Traditional Council, USTA, the SDA Church, the Osagyefo Ampem Foundation and their partners are laying the foundation for a future where quality healthcare is not a privilege, but an opportunity available to all.
Through his foundation, Osagyefo Ampem Foundation has a lot of projects to benefit the good people of Wenchi and beyond.
