The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Setor Dumelo, has proposed that churches in Ghana come together to establish factories to add value to agricultural produce.

He believes such partnerships could help create agro-processing facilities in regions with significant agricultural production.

In a social media post on Wednesday, October 7, Dumelo noted that the government could support such investments through incentives and help provide ready markets for the processed products.

“What if 10 churches come together to establish a factory? This will be a value addition factory,” he said.

He noted that churches including the Catholic, Methodist, Anglican, Presbyterian, Evangelical Presbyterian, ICGC, Seventh-day Adventist and First Love Chapel could explore such a partnership.

“Imagine these churches together establishing a factory in Ashanti, Volta or North East to add value to tomatoes, pepper or maize,” he said.

The proposal is aimed at encouraging greater private and faith-based investment in agro-processing and reducing the losses associated with the sale of raw agricultural produce.
