Nigerian startup HubPharm Africa has won the second edition of the ECOWAS Startup Awards, taking home the grand prize of US$30,000.
The awards ceremony was held on September 30, at the New ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.
Gaynako of Senegal emerged as the first runner-up, while My Opinion of Côte d’Ivoire placed second runner-up.
The awards were organised by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission through its Directorate of Private Sector and Industry.
The ceremony also saw the launch of the ECOWAS Private Sector Development Academy and the ECOWAS Startup Networks.
The two initiatives are aimed at strengthening collaboration among entrepreneurs and private-sector stakeholders across the region.
They are also expected to promote knowledge-sharing and improve access to opportunities within West Africa’s growing startup ecosystem.
The second edition of the ECOWAS Startup Awards forms part of efforts by the Commission to promote innovation, support emerging businesses and create an enabling environment for entrepreneurship across the region.
